Julian Augustus (332-363), the Roman emperor, who almost turned history back, remained for centuries under the name Apostate (or Apostate). Russian writer D. S. Merezhkovsky included a novel about him in the trilogy “Christ and Antichrist”. And the brilliant American paradoxist Gore Vidal offered his version of his fate.
