Some Christians divide the entire Old Testament law into prescriptive moral commandments and ritual and civil commandments that are optional in our time. Others completely reject the moral teaching of the Old Testament, considering it irrelevant, and considering only the teaching of the New Testament mandatory for obedience. Chris Wright does not agree with either view, and is convinced that both of them detract from the first part of Scripture. He offers a completely new approach and examines the theological, social and economic components of Old Testament ethics, and then examines a number of contemporary issues, applying the results of his research to them: ethics and economics, land and the poor, ethics and ecology, politics, law and justice , society, culture and family, freedom and the individual, and others.

After thirty years of research and publication on Old Testament ethics, Chris Wright brings together his findings in this comprehensive, easy-to-read study guide that can rightfully be called his most outstanding work. It should be high on the reading lists of any student, teacher, minister or layperson interested in the role of the Old Testament in addressing contemporary ethical issues.David BakerTindale House, Cambridge

Christopher Wright is Director of International Ministry at the Langham Partnership international".
