The book by B. N. Tikhomirov is a series of essays dedicated to addresses on Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg, one way or another connected with the biography and/or work of F. M. Dostoevsky. Such historical figures as V. G. Belinsky, A. A. Kraevsky, N. A. Nekrasov, M. M. Dostoevsky, Baron A. E. Wrangel, A. S. Suvorin and others lived on Nevsky Prospekt. whom Dostoevsky visited, with whom he corresponded or was in other literary or everyday relationships. He also spoke here at literary evenings in the Noble Assembly, participated in a seance at the apartment of A. N. Aksakov, listened to Lord Redstock’s sermon, prayed in the Church of the Sign, visited the Winter and Anichkov palaces, etc. In the confectionery shop of Wolf (formerly Wolf and Beranger), Dostoevsky’s fateful acquaintance with M. V. Petrashevsky took place. The action in some of his works (“Crocodile”, “Double”, “Notes from the Underground”, “Idiot”, “Teenager”) takes place on Nevsky, the routes of a number of his characters lie, the prototypes of his heroes live. The book is based on unpublished materials the writer's archive, printed sources of the 19th century, and other historical documents, little-known pages of the writer's biography are illuminated, addresses associated with him are indicated for the first time, data on the history of buildings on Nevsky Prospekt is provided, and the context of Dostoevsky's era is recreated.
