Автор майстерно передає емоції головного героя, Форд Ньюкомба, який бореться з втратою коханої дружини і намагається знайти новий сенс у житті. Його шлях до відновлення і нових почуттів описаний настільки чуттєво, що я не міг відірватися від сторінок. Джекі Максвелл, його нова секретарка, вносить у його життя свіжий подих, і їхня взаємодія наповнена теплом і ніжністю.
