Ice (1967) is the major novel by British writer Anne Cavan, who during her lifetime was compared to Virginia Woolf and called Kafka's sister. Critics consider Cavan to be the founder of the slipstream genre—literature of fantasy imagination, where cause-and-effect relationships hang on by a thread, and senses, heightened to the limit, are incomparably more important than logic. In her novels, a completely realistic image suddenly ripples, and unexpected images and pictures emerge from the depths of the subconscious.
