“Letters to Neighbors” is a collection of works by Mikhail Osipovich Menshikov (1859–1918), one of the key journalists and thinkers of the early twentieth century, a writer and publicist, a brilliant master of words, who, without exaggeration, was read by all of Russia at that time. And it was published in the newspaper “Novoe Vremya”, one of the most widespread conservative newspapers of that time. Financial policy of Russia, the catastrophe of alcohol consumption in the country, studies in zemstvo schools, universities, the bicentenary of St. Petersburg, state insurance, charity, Russian village, aristocracy and the people, the Russo-Japanese War - topics that M.O. Menshikov. He also wrote about his famous contemporaries - L.N. Tolstoy, D.I. Mendeleev, V.V. Vereshchagine, A.P. Chekhov and many others. The skillful and original voice of the author for his readers was the indispensable compass that made their lives meaningful, answering vital questions that worried society.
