Every autumn, in November, unusual competitions are held on Thisby Island, located in the ocean near the British Isles. Riders saddle water horses and organize races. Fame and money await the winner, but few become winners. The fact is that water horses are capricious and dangerous creatures that feed on human flesh. And only those for whom winning is the only hope of radically changing their fate can curb them. It is for this reason that nineteen-year-old Sean Kendrick and young Park Connolly are ready to risk their lives. But the problem is that they are in love with each other, and in the cruel game ahead of them there are no two winners.
