Drizzt joins Brunor in his quest for the fairytale dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym. The ruins promise to be rich in ancient treasures and magical artifacts. But before they even get started, the friends encounter another couple with similar intentions: Jarlaxle and Athrogate. In their hunt for treasure and artifacts, Jarlaxle and Athrogate inadvertently cause a disaster that threatens to destroy the unsuspecting citizens of Neverwinter - a disaster whose magnitude is enough for Jarlaxle to risk his own gold and hide to save the city. Unfortunately, the more they learn about Gauntlgrym's secret, the clearer it becomes that they cannot cope on their own. Jarlaxle and Athrogate need help. And the last people they would expect help from are Drizzt and Brunor.
