He summoned the half-dozen officers who still commanded airworthy ships, and in the name of Control ordered them to fly into space and map—so he said—the forgotten systems on the edge of the Galaxy. He made a vague promise to establish new bases where the Patrol would be strengthened and revitalized, and could once again fight for the ideals of Control. And, true to their ancient oath, they raised their ships, with incomplete crews, without proper equipment, without real hope of return, but with the intention of carrying out the order to the end. One of these ships was the vegan scout Starfire.
