The collection “The Last Idol” includes works by Alexander Zvyagintsev from different years and different genres. They are united by the common theme of historical memory and personal responsibility of a person in the fight against evil, which sometimes appears in the most unexpected guises. Stories are published from cycles about the cases of investigators Bagrintsev and Severin, prosecutors Olgin and Ship - already known to readers from Zvyagintsev’s collection “Some of you must die!” (2012). For the first time, the play “The Last Idol” will see the light, as well as a series of essays by the writer about the events surrounding significant figures in the social and political life of Russia in the 19th and 20th centuries - from Pyotr Stolypin to Solzhenitsyn, from Alexander Kerensky to Lev Sheinin.
