In Odessa there is the famous Lanzheron beach. It was named in honor of the Kherson military governor and Odessa mayor, Count Alexander Langeron, who took the reins of government after the Duke of Richelieu left for France. It was under Langeron that the Odessa region became a free economic zone, it was under him that the Richelieu Lyceum was opened. But in fact, Langeron went down in history not only thanks to all this. Langeron was famous in high society of the Russian Empire as an inimitable storyteller and wit. His successful expressions were passed on from mouth to mouth. And, finally, he was an outstanding military leader. He distinguished himself during the capture of Ishmael. And it was Count Langeron, at the head of his corps, who took the heights of Montmartre in 1814, which, in fact, decided the fate of Paris and the fate of Napoleon - he was eventually forced to abdicate the throne. For the capture of the heights of Montmartre, Emperor Alexander I personally awarded Langeron the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Until now, there has been no biography of A.F. Langeron. And this unfortunate and unfair omission has been made up for by this book.
