The novel “Theresa” by the famous Austrian A. Schnitzler (1862–1931) was written almost at the end of his life (1928), when the writer, under the influence of the ideas of Sigmund Freud, began to pay more and more attention to the analysis of the subconscious in the human soul. The main character of the novel, Teresa Fabiani, a woman with an independent character, after the death of her father, is forced to earn a living by serving as a governess in wealthy families. Schnitzler masterfully conveys all the subtleties of her emotional experiences and at the same time impartially describes Teresa, who has all the weaknesses of the pragmatic environment she despises. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
