In the summer of 1993, Anna Zhuravleva and her friends, as part of a student construction team, ended up in Shikotan. A local boy nicknamed Lukha becomes their guide. During an exciting journey around the island, Anna nearly dies in an underwater tunnel and ends up in the former Japanese catacombs, where large stocks of weapons and ammunition are stored. There she learns that Luha, whose grandfather died heroically during the Kuril landing operation, and his comrades intend to use this arsenal to protect their native island in order to thwart the plans of corrupt politicians and military personnel to transfer it to Japan.
