Ann Sophia Stevens (1810/1813 - 1886) - one of the most popular writers of her era - wrote poems, essays, stories, novels with sequels, handicraft manuals, published and edited magazines. Stevens' most famous novel, Maleska, the Indian Wife of the White Hunter, is a sentimental story about the misadventures of an Indian woman who became a victim of racial prejudice. It first appeared in 1839, and in 1860 was published as the first installment in the Ten-Cent Romance series of cheap entertainment books. The original text has entered the public domain. Here is the first translation into Russian. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
