Readers who remember the events of the literary life of the USSR are probably familiar with the name of the critic Cornelius Zelinsky. The book “Conversation with Father” was written by his son, a priest, religious writer, and publicist. It is obvious that the worldview of a contemporary of the October Revolution, collectivization, Stalinist repressions and the view of the life of a person who was born in 1942 and was ordained have little overlap. But love is more important than ideological differences and helps us understand that reconciliation does not mean the abolition of differences, but is their atonement, “a feasible compensation in one life for what was lost in another.” There are not many books in today’s literature as piercingly sincere and relevant as this one, reminding us that “behind the unchanging fairness of the rules, hidden—without any dispute between them—is the warmth of the palm of God, on which we can all fit.” The significance of this thought and this feeling is accessible to adherents of any religion.
