The novel is an indirect continuation of the dilogies “The Forest on the Other Side” and “Night of the Gods.” Leaving the earthly world in the spring, Madder-Winter glanced from the funeral pyre at sixteen-year-old Mladina from Zalom-gorodok. And something changed in the girl: the mermaids spoke to her, the dead began to appear in her eyes, the white wolf began to come out to her from the forest to support her in difficult times. Another essence inside her gains strength and ultimately pushes her out of her hometown, out of her family, into the forest, to the sorceress Uglyana, who, as she was told, is her real mother. But this also turns out to be untrue. Mladina is no longer frightened by the discovery that her relatives are a family of werewolves. If only they could help her find the way to her falcon groom, who she dreams about and is convinced that they were engaged many years ago.
