The Scandinavian countries - Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden - despite the similarity of cultures and traditions, are still very different from each other. Using archaeological reports, descriptions of rock paintings, analyzing and comparing the products of ancient artisans, Hilda Ellis Davidson reconstructed a complete picture of the ideas about the world around the fearless northern man, who created a pantheon of pagan gods and valued military glory and the interpretation of wise runes above all else.
