The most important moment of this period is the abolition of centuries-old serfdom. Other notable reforms were carried out that changed the life of the country. However, the fate of the reformer tsar himself turned out to be tragic: he died at the hands of a terrorist. The authors of the feature articles are scientists from the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The book also contains excerpts from lectures on Russian history by the famous Russian scientist of the 19th century V. O. Klyuchevsky.
