Merlin is the second book in the Pendragon series by English writer Stephen Lawhead. The main character of the book is the legendary sage and prophet Merlin. The cycle is based on Celtic legends, subtly woven by the author into real historical events. Since the 90s, S. Lawhead has been considered a recognized master of the fantasy genre. It is impossible to deny the influence of C. Lewis and R. Tolkien on his work, but the writer still managed to find his own original path in literature.
