The story of the American writer Albert Payson Terhune (1872–1942) about “a dog of noble blood and a noble soul” was first published in 1919, twenty years before the publication of “Lassie” by Eric Knight. Lad's story caused an incredible response, even influencing the formation of collie breed standards, and went through more than 80 reprints. It is published in Russian for the first time.
