“History of France in the Early Middle Ages” is a translation of the first two volumes of the classical history of France, edited by Ernest Lavisse, which throughout the 20th century has served as a valuable aid to anyone interested in the history of this country. The most eminent historians of the first half of the 20th century took part in this large-scale project. The authors covered a huge period - from the Paleolithic to the end of the 10th century. The reader can get acquainted with the main events that took place in ancient Gaul and early medieval France: the settlement of Gaul by the Celts and its conquest by the Romans; the collapse of the Roman Empire and the emergence of the Frankish kingdom of the Merovingian dynasty; the accession to the throne of the second Frankish dynasty - the Carolingians, the foundation and collapse of the empire of Charlemagne.
