“History of France in the Early Middle Ages” is a translation of the first two volumes of the classical history of France, edited by Ernest Lavisse, which throughout the 20th century has served as a valuable aid to anyone interested in the history of this country. The most eminent historians of the first half of the 20th century took part in this large-scale project. The authors covered a huge period - from the Paleolithic to the end of the 10th century. The reader can get acquainted with the main events that took place in ancient Gaul and early medieval France: the settlement of Gaul by the Celts and its conquest by the Romans; the collapse of the Roman Empire and the emergence of the Frankish kingdom of the Merovingian dynasty; the accession to the throne of the second Frankish dynasty - the Carolingians, the foundation and collapse of the empire of Charlemagne. At the same time, the team of authors pays no less attention to the social and cultural history of ancient and early medieval France. The main characters of French history appear on the pages of the book - Verzengetorix, Caesar, Clovis and Charlemagne. What makes the book especially valuable is that the translation was carried out at the beginning of the century by the rising star of Russian historical science - O. A. Dobiash-Rozhdestvenskaya - under the editorship of a recognized historian - antique artist I. M. Grevs.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
