Історія Каті Петровської, кримінального оглядача, яка намагається розгадати мотивацію безжального вбивці Романа Пепеляєва, захоплює з перших сторінок. Автор майстерно створює атмосферу напруги та загадки, змушуючи читача постійно ставити запитання про природу зла та людської психіки. Взаємодія між Катєю та полковником Гущиним додає динаміки та глибини сюжету, а їхні роздуми про віру та моральність змушують задуматися про важливі філософські питання. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які незначно впливають на загальне враження, книга залишає сильне враження і спонукає до роздумів.
