Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Abdallah ibn Battuta al-Lawati at-Tanji is rightfully considered the greatest traveler of the Muslim Middle Ages. During almost 30 years of wandering, from 1325 to 1354, he visited almost all countries of Islam, visited the Golden Horde, India and China. The description of his travels serves both as a first-class historical source and as an extremely living and immediate cultural monument: the era.
