T. Coraghessan Boyle was made truly famous by the best American magazines: for twenty years now, The New Yorker, Harper's Basaar, Esquire, Playboy, and GQ have literally been fighting for the right to publish his stories. During his career as an author, Boyle collected five prestigious O. Henry Awards, three American Pen Center Awards, received the American Editors' Choice award three times, and twice received the title of author of the Best American Short Story. Now he has a dozen books to his credit, translated into seventeen languages, and the title of laureate of the French Medici Prize, one of the most honorable in Europe. And also the film “The Road to Wellville” (1994), based on his novel, directed by the great Alan Parker and starring Anthony Hopkins. The novel “East is East” is a fascinating odyssey of a half-breed Japanese son, the son of an American hippie. Making his way to an incomprehensible, hostile America, where he is looking for the City of Brotherly Love, Hiro Tanaka takes with him a piece of the East - the code of samurai honor of Yukio Mishima.
