Tony Duver destroys the romantic idea of time. The present and the future merge in his story, yesterday and today exist simultaneously, testifying to the horror of aging, decay and death. “Portrait of a Knife Man” goes back to a line by Henri Michaud about a man looking at a knife becoming himself. In this world of timelessness, ethical “evil” (murder, rape, homosexuality) becomes a myth, a liturgy that hides decay and death.
