Vladimir Iosifovich Gurko (1862–1927) is a prominent statesman and public figure of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century, a member of the State Council, and a man of right-wing views. His book “The Tsar and the Queen” was first published in exile in 1927. Based on personal observations, Gurko recreates the image of the last Russian imperial couple, shows the political atmosphere in the country before the February Revolution, and clarifies the reasons for the collapse of the autocratic system. At one time, the book suffered undeserved oblivion. It did not fit into the concept of “party membership” of either the right camp of monarchists or democrats, who also suffered a fiasco in Russia and were in exile. The authorship of the book was often attributed to Vladimir Iosifovich’s brother, General Vasily Iosifovich Gurko (1864–1937), to whom this publication is dedicated to the historical essay based on archival documents.

Книга "Цар і цариця" Володимира Гурко - це справжній скарб для всіх, хто цікавиться історією Росії та політичними подіями початку XX століття. Автор, спираючись на особисті спостереження та архівні документи, майстерно відтворює образ останньої імператорської пари, показуючи не лише їхнє життя, але й політичну атмосферу, що панувала в країні перед Лютневою революцією. Читач отримує можливість заглянути в глибини історії, зрозуміти причини краху самодержавства та побачити, як особисті драми впливають на великі історичні події. Хоча книга спіткала незаслужене забуття, вона заслуговує на нове життя, адже її аналіз подій та персонажів залишається актуальним і сьогодні. Єдине, що може викликати деякі труднощі - це якість перекладу, адже в деяких місцях текст може бути не зовсім коректним. Проте, незважаючи на це, книга варта уваги та обов'язково сподобається тим, хто цінує глибокі історичні дослідження.
