All children go to school - they learn what will be useful to them in adulthood. The meaning and content of Sunday school lessons is to fill the lack of knowledge about the spiritual life of a person that occurs in the school curriculum. In Orthodox Sunday school, children will learn what faith is, the Orthodox Church, and will learn the history of mankind as set out in the oldest and best preserved source - the Bible. The purpose of Sunday school lessons is to teach children the meaning of the Orthodox faith, make the rituals and Sacraments clear to them, and teach them to relate meaningfully to faith itself. Often, not entirely competent and correct presentation, incompetent answers to the questions of a child whom the parents want to join the Church, cause a backlash: the child is distrustful of such explanations, and his questions often remain unanswered. A little person has eternal questions - freedom, obedience, trust, concepts of good and evil are formed. The answers to these questions are the most difficult for parents, and nowhere are they presented so succinctly and concisely, as accessible as in the Bible - a collection of sacred books. In addition, the Bible is a valuable source of knowledge about ancient cultures, the history of peoples and the spiritual development of mankind. If its value lay only in this, then even then it should be studied more deeply than is done in modern school.
