In the forest near the town of Algonquin Bay in the Canadian province of Ontario, the remains of an American tourist are found torn to pieces by animals. After some time, the corpse of a young female doctor is discovered in the same forest. The investigation is entrusted to local police officers John Cardinal and Liz Delorme. The police quickly establish that these are not accidents, but murders committed by the same criminal. The Cardinal manages to find out that the murdered man is a former CIA employee. This gives the criminal police the right to transfer the investigation to other hands, but John Cardinal decides to unravel the case himself.
