Colonel John Ward - a famous English politician and officer of the British army, commander of the forward battalion, which became known as the "Unbreakable", was sent to the Far East, and then to Siberia to support the troops of Admiral Kolchak during the Russian Civil War against the forces Bolsheviks. The battalion was initially intended for garrison duty only, but soon found itself involved in combat operations in the harsh conditions of the Siberian winter. Ward describes the battalion's route from Vladivostok to Nikolsk and several combat operations in which it took part. The author pays special attention to the opposition of the Japanese, which he and his soldiers had to face in Siberia. Ward’s memoirs are interesting in that they represent eyewitness accounts of military operations in the Far East and Siberia, as well as the point of view of a British officer on the politics and relations of those involved in conflict of countries that subsequently created the conditions for a new world war.
