A graduate of the space flight college, Alexander is the son of Admiral Bruno Schneider, who seventeen years ago organized an attempted coup on the planet Octavia and himself died during the rebellion. Because of his father, the young pilot's military career is closed; there is also no place for it on civilian interstellar ships. However, thanks to his extraordinary abilities and partly due to luck, he manages to enlist in the elite research fleet, which is engaged in deep space reconnaissance. During his first expedition, Alexander ends up on the distant and previously unknown planet Jutland. This event dramatically changes his life, and he finds himself in the midst of an impending interplanetary war...
