This book is about George DeLong's expedition on the sailing-steam ship Jeannette (1879-1881), one of the most unsuccessful American Arctic expeditions. The author is the ship's senior engineer, one of the few survivors - an example of courage and incomprehensible perseverance in achieving the goal! This book is often quoted in Russian-language literature about the Arctic, but there has not yet been a complete translation.
