The second part of the tetralogy “Sea of Abundance” embodies the Buddhist concept of the circle of life. In “Carrying Horses” the line of heroes from “Spring Snow” continues. The rationalist and lawyer Shigekuni Honda in adulthood meets a nineteen-year-old boy, in whom he suddenly sees his beloved friend Kiyoaki Matsugae. And in the new life, the collision of a friend’s dream with reality ends in death, tragic but fascinating. Isao is the new incarnation of Kiyoaki - a young man who masters the martial art of kendo. He passionately loves his country and in order to restore its glory and greatness, he is plotting a coup d'etat. He considers the decision he made, both in case of failure and in case of success, to commit suicide in a truly valiant way - hara-kiri, as proof of the purity of his thoughts. In the novel "Carrying Horses" Mishima described in many details his own future death - ritual suicide of hara-kiri.
