The new adventure novel by the famous Moscow writer Alexander Andreev, “The Ghost of Zbarazh Castle, or the Mystery of Bogdan Khmelnytsky,” tells about the extraordinary search for the treasures of the great hetman, which ended in incredible events in Ukraine. Moscow historian Maxim, who came to Kyiv in search of original documents of the Pereyaslav Rada, which took place January 8, 1654, finds the archive and gold of Bogdan Khmelnitsky in the Zbarazh castle filled with ghosts and evil spirits. In the Verkhnyaya Rada itself in Kyiv, he proposes to transfer the found documents into the joint possession of the Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples, after which the people of the chairman of the SVR Committee on National Heritage, who works for Poland, begin to persecute him in order to snatch information about treasures from him, and then remove him as unnecessary a witness to their crimes. A stunning chase begins from Kyiv Khreshchatyk, Andreevsky Spusk, Lysaya Gora and Mezhyhirya. The action is constantly transferred from Kyiv to the ghostly Zbarazh, Medzhibozh, Lviv, the amazing Svirzh castle, the Carpathians, the mysterious and dangerous Khust, the secret twin palace Chinadievo, to the Tisza River and the border of Ukraine with Romania, to Khotyn, Kamenets-Podolsky, Chernivtsi, Pereyaslav- Khmelnitsky and, of course, to Dikanka, where all the Ukrainian evil spirits immediately appear, led by the demon Viy himself. The action of the novel ends with an amazing open ending in the capital of Ukraine and Pereyaslav. A very dangerous and adventurous journey with ghosts and searches for treasures, with the exact mechanism of hiding and finding them, is described reliably and in detail. During the creation of the novel, the author, who at one time was looking for the cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk and the golden standards of Napoleon in Belarus and knows well how this is done, walked and drove along the entire Ukrainian route along which the pursuit of the Moscow historian takes place in the novel, and made many interesting things there photographs and observations that perfectly illustrate the plot, helping readers fall into the past and be transported into the thick of events. The action takes place simultaneously in the 17th and 21st centuries, in which the main characters of the novel live and conquer. The narrative, as necessary, contains stories about the Jesuit Order and its Lviv Collegium, Grigory Skovoroda, the underground experts the Bernardine Fathers, the secret operations of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, mysticism, magic and ghosts unexplained by modern science.
