The purpose of the Dictionary is to give as complete an idea as possible about the color palette of Brodsky’s poetry. In addition to generally accepted color terms, the Dictionary includes all the names of flowers and plants. The material for the “Dictionary” was all of Brodsky’s published poems and his unpublished poems, which were included in the samizdat four-volume set compiled by V. Maramzin, as well as those stored in American and Russian archives. The “dictionary” will allow you to explore color images in Brodsky’s different poetic genres and will make it easier to answer questions about the genesis of Brodsky’s color palette, the reasons for its evolution in English poetry, and traditionality and innovation in the poet’s color symbolism.
