The Russian reader is well acquainted with the Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish and English pirates of the past, but knows practically nothing about the famous pirate raids of German ships in the 20th century. In the world wars, it was not only German ships that engaged in corsairship. Operating in the ocean, having neither bases nor allies, the raiders demonstrated miracles of courage, masquerading under the flags of various countries, they inflicted quick and painful blows on the enemy and skillfully evaded persecution, hiding in the waters of exotic archipelagos.
