It was published in 65 volumes, where each volume had an average of 800 pages. The first edition initiated in the 1920s, finally approved in 1969. BSE is considered one of the most detailed sources of information about the Soviet Union, its history and culture. Each volume of the encyclopedia contained theoretical and practical information, which was a unique source of knowledge for its time place in the cultural space of the Soviet Union and is a historical testimony of the intellectual and informational culture of this period."
