Yuri Polyakov is the editor-in-chief of Literaturnaya Gazeta, a member of the Writers' Union, and the author of many periodicals. Many of his novels and stories have become cult favorites. Based on the stories and novels of Yuri Polyakov, films have been made and performances staged, and plays have been successfully performed not only on Russian stages, but also in near and far abroad. He remains true to himself in dramaturgy: unexpected plot twists and sparkling humor of dialogues guarantee his plays success, and they have been on the stages of Russian and foreign theaters for many years. Yuri Polyakov is a master of psychological prose, in which sophisticated eroticism and irony are intertwined; the author of hundreds of catchphrases and several words that have become firmly entrenched in the modern lexicon, for example, “apofgey”, “gospodarishchi”, “desovetization”... In addition, Polyakov is the co-author of the script for the cult film “Voroshilovsky Shooter” (1997), as well as the author of the original scripts based on films and TV series.
