In the collection “The Labors of Hercules,” each of the twelve short stories about the investigations of Hercule Poirot echoes the corresponding labor of Hercules. “After the Funeral” The relatives and friends who have gathered for the funeral of the bachelor millionaire divide the inheritance. The causes of death were determined by doctors to be natural. However, the family’s lawyer is alarmed by a phrase uttered by one of the relatives: “But he was killed, no?” And the next night, the woman who uttered these words is brutally killed with an ax. The lawyer is confused. Of course, there can be no talk of any announcement of the last will of the deceased in such a situation. Finally, he comes to the conclusion that only the great detective Hercule Poirot is able to identify the murderer among his numerous relatives...
