Michelle Henke, cousin of Queen Elizabeth of Manticore, best friend of Honor Harrington, and commander of Manticore's Tenth Fleet, was somewhat surprised when a messenger from the Mobius System informed her that the Mobius Liberation Front was preparing to rebel against the hated regime of President Svein Lombroso. She can understand why someone would want to get rid of someone like Lombroso, but why is she being made aware of this? After all, she has her own problems in the form of the small matter of a brewing war to the death against the Solar League. Michelle has just, while protecting the new citizens of the Star Empire from the Talbott Sector, dealt the "indomitable" Solar League fleet the most humiliating, one-sided defeat in its entire almost thousand years of history. But The League is the most powerful star nation in human history. Her fleet is about to return - and this time with thousands of super-dreadnoughts. And before Henke lies an expanse of many inhabited star systems - some independent, others controlled by puppet regimes, and others simply directly captured by the Solarian Border Security Agency - lying along the League's border with Sector Talbott. As news of the League's defeat spreads throughout the area, the entire border erupts into unrest, and Michel sympathizes with the oppressed population, whose only desire is to be free from their hated masters. And this puts her in a somewhat difficult position when a messenger from Mobius arrives, because who... then obviously misled him. According to him, The Mobius uprising was carefully planned and involved close coordination with a powerful external ally: the Manticore Star Empire. Except Manticore - and Michelle Henke - haven't even heard of the Mobius Liberation Front. It's a setup... and Michelle knows who's behind it. The secret organization "Mesa's Indication" organized a bold operation to discredit Manticore as a defender of freedom. And when the RMN does not come to the rescue, when the FOM is brutally and mercilessly crushed, no independent star system will ever trust Manticore again. Michelle Henke understands that she does not have the sanction of her government to help any uprisings or liberation movements, that she doesn't have many ships, that they can't be in many different places at the same time and... that it's not could serve as justification for refusing to allocate ships from her limited forces to support liberation movements with which the Star Empire was never involved. She understands this... but she does not care. She cannot allow thousands of patriots to believe that Manticore will come to their aid, they went to their death, because Manticore's enemies promised them help. Michelle Henke will not calmly watch this. About “Mission of Honor”, issue #13 in the series about Honor Harrington:
