V. K. Zvorykin (1889–1982) is a man of amazing destiny; overseas he was called “Russia’s generous gift to the American continent.” A young Russian engineer, who fled from Civil War-torn Russia, was the first in the world to create a working electronic television installation, but even in “advanced” America, almost no one in the scientific world believed in the prospects of this invention. During World War II, his developments were used to create night vision devices, TV-guided bombs, electron microscopes and much more. The author of more than 120 inventions, winner of many prizes and awards, the scientist never severed ties with his homeland, earning the nickname not only “father of television”, but also “Russian American.”
