The literary fate of M. S. Petrovs was not easy. During her lifetime, she was known primarily as an excellent translator and, although her poems were admired by A. Akhmatova, B. Pasternak, O. Mandelstam, only one book of her poems, “The Distant Tree,” was published. Posthumous editions sold out instantly. The lyrics of M. Petrov are full of drama, revealing a strong and gentle character.
