The title of Elena Kryukova’s novel coincides with the name of the recognized masterpiece of the famous Italian sculptor of the twentieth century Giacomo Manzu (1908–1991), to whom the novel is dedicated - “The Doors of Death” for St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome (10 scenes-reliefs for one of doors of the temple, through which funeral processions usually exited). The novel “The Gates of Death” also consists of relief stories, united by one theme - the theme of departure, death.
