André-Robert de Nersia (Dijon, 1739 - Naples, 1800) talented French writer of the 18th century. First of all, he is famous for his erotic novels, which in many ways anticipated the sexual revolution of the 20th century. His eroticism opposes both the dark, criminal fantasies of the Marquis de Sade, and the love deceit of Choderlos de Laclos, the religious sense of the sinfulness of carnal pleasures, and romantic “dark passions.” Perhaps there has never been a writer in world literature who so openly, easily and cheerfully described what is now commonly called “the joy of sex.”
