The name of Nicholas Roerich has been exciting the minds of researchers for more than a hundred years, and the appearance of new archival documents causes endless debate about his place in literature, science, politics and art. Numerous editions of Nicholas Roerich’s books testify to the undying interest of the mass reader in him. Orientalist historian M. L. Dubaev has already addressed this legendary figure in his book “The Harbin Secret of Roerich.” In a new work about N.K. Roerich, the author for the first time recreates a true biography, reveals the inner world of a humanist, one of the outstanding figures of Russian and world culture of the 20th century, who contributed to the rapprochement of Russia and India. Having lived for many years in the USA and India, N.K. Roerich did not break ties with Russia. Expeditions to Central Asia, friendship with Rabindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru. Franklin Roosevelt, Henry Wallace, H.G. Wells, Alexander Benois, Sergei Diaghilev, Leonid Andreev. Maxim Gorky, Igor Grabar, Igor Stravinsky, Alexei Remizov largely determined the artist’s fate. The book is based on archival materials still unknown to the general public, and reveals to the reader many secrets of the “Power of the Roerichs.”
