Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca to the al-Haram mosque, performed at the beginning of the twelfth month of the Muslim lunar calendar, as a result of which this month received the name “Dhu-l-Hijjah”. According to the teachings of Islam, every Muslim who is able to do so must perform the Hajj at least once in his life. If a person, for good reason, cannot make the pilgrimage himself, he has the right to send another person in his place, paying him all the necessary expenses (but such a person can only be someone who has previously performed the Hajj). The spiritual significance of the Hajj is that By leaving their home for a while and enduring the hardships of travel, pilgrims thereby perform external and internal cleansing, bringing peace to their souls. Returning home, the pilgrim (haji) puts on a green turban and long white clothes (galabey), which symbolizes the performance of the hajj. The pilgrim's relatives and friends arrange a ceremonial meeting for him, which is accompanied by a festive treat. Many Muslims repeat the Hajj whenever possible and even perform it multiple times.
