Claudio Aguiar was born on October 3, 1944 in the Northeast of Brazil (state of Ceará). At the age of fourteen, he and his family moved to Fortaleza. It is to this city that the main character of his novel returns, seemingly having extricated himself from all troubles. After receiving the National Prize for Literature, fame comes to Aguiar, and the most authoritative Latin American and Spanish critics and literary scholars argue about his work, thereby recognizing the indisputability of that , that a new name has appeared in literature. The novel “The Return of Emanuela,” published in Brazil in 1989, was awarded the Osman Lins Prize.
