The monograph, based on archival documents, published sources, Soviet, post-Soviet and foreign historiography, reconstructs the institutional, organizational and legal aspects, volumes and geography, forms and features of Soviet outbound (foreign) tourism in 1955–1991. The neo-institutional approach allowed the authors to show the dependence of these parameters and shadow practices of Soviet tourists abroad on the fundamental principles - basic in the activities of tourist organizations responsible for sending USSR citizens on foreign tours - and also to consider the political and ideological component of these trips in the context of the Cold War.
