"Hungry House" is a masterpiece of Ukrainian literature, written by Olga Kobylyanska. In this novel, the author reveals the life of a remote village in the Poltava region at the end of the 19th century. The main character, a young guy Vasyl, is forced to fight against unknown, or even sinister, forces that arise in the form of scary, crazy dreams. He tries to understand the meaning of his existence and the choice between family and love. The author reproduces in an exceptionally realistic manner the life of a small Ukrainian village, where people have almost nothing, but at the same time have hope, faith and mutual compassion. "The Hungry House" is a deep and frank story about finding oneself and one's place in the world, about how important it is not to get lost under the pressure of the surrounding circumstances.
