A novel from the famous series about the Saint - a noble thief hiding under the names of Catholic saints - the forerunner of James Bond. Beginning his career as a modern-day Robin Hood with a group of friends, Simon Templer was involved in expropriating major mafiosi, giving the taken money to charity, keeping 10 percent of the commission for himself. He prevented several world wars, for which he was officially pardoned in England, collaborated with the CIA, etc. Harrison came into contact with the image of Simon Templer when he began writing comic scripts for the newspaper strip “The Saint”. When the strip was cancelled, Garrison had various unused scripts left and Leslie Charteris asked if he would like to combine them into one novel. Set in Sicily, the novel contains many of the authentic "small Italian town" details that Garrison "accumulated" while living in Italy. The Saint Intervenes in a fight that breaks out in a restaurant when an Englishman greets an Italian, who pretends that the Englishman has confused him with someone else. The police, finding the Englishman's body the next morning, believe that he was the victim of a robbery with violence. Templer doesn't believe it. He assumes that this is part of the Italian vendetta and discovers that the Italian has connections with the mafia. The investigation leads the Saint to a castle perched on a cliff. The novel was adapted into the television adventure series The Saint, starring Roger Moore.
