The book is dedicated to the Pushkin anniversary of 1937, organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the poet’s death. Drawing on extensive historical and documentary material, the author offers the modern reader the experience of reconstructing the artistic life of that time, marked by heated discussions and various projects, mostly unrealized. A number of book chapters are devoted to the history of the “Queen of Spades” in Russian graphics, the polemics of futurists and Pushkinians around the monument to Pushkin, etc. The book is illustrated with rare materials from Pushkin’s visual arts and documentary photographs.
